Spring-harvested from the red “New Zealand honeysuckle” this is a much sort after premium honey that is rich in both flavour and colour. It has a robust full body character, with a touch of malt on the palette, works well with strong savoury flavours and game. Rewa Rewa is found throughout expansive native bush areas in the North Island and the Nelson/Marlborough area.
Rewarewa, the New Zealand Honeysuckle named for its free-flowing nectar from the flowers, is a tall, slender, elegant member of the native New Zealand forest.
Rewarewa (Knightia excelsa) Family: Proteaceae Rewarewa is the New Zealand Honeysuckle. The large cluster of brick red flowers provide large volumes of nectar giving the plant its common-name. It is a tall tree, and in summer produces bright red needle-like flowers which curl into tight intricate spirals. This spiral shape is a motif of the New Zealand bush and can be seen repeatedly in New Zealand art. Rewarewa wood is, like it's flower, red in colour. The rich, red honey the Rewarewa tree produces is comparatively mild, and popular with those who enjoy bush honey. "Red, warm and sweet, this honey is a taste of the Pacific sun". The nectar used to be collected by the Maori to eat; the picked flowers would be tapped on the inside of a container with the nectar flowing freely. In times past the Rewarewa nectar was used to cure sore throats.

Kamahi ( Weinmannia racemosa) Family: Cunoniacease The Kamahi tree is a native of New Zealand forests and is sacred to the country's Maori people.
Kamahi is an evergreen found throughout New Zealand. Every Spring white tassels appear and the Kamahi is host to thousands of hungry honeybees harvesting nectar. Flowers in racemes 12cm long are produced from November to January imparting a reddish glow to trees during summer.
The Kamahi tree is valued by the Maori people and has been given protection by tapu. From this sacred tree comes a golden honey. It is a special honey, unique to New Zealand.
Kamahi is a canopy-forming tree in mixed forests. A hardy tree, which often assumes twisted or grosteque shapes as it struggles towards the light. Found in lowland and subalpine forests from Thames to Stewart Island, Kamahi grows to 25m high with a trunk of 1 to 1.5m in diameter and a grey bark spotted with white.
Early European settlers used the bark of Kamahi for tanning leather and the Maori people used the bark to dye mats and cloaks made from flax. The dye rendered from the tree is dark red in colour. It was also used as a preservative and fishing lines were soaked in it. The bark of the tree is reported to be of value in the treatment of burns.
